BlackDart surfboard construction is a trademarked surfboard manufacturing technology. Developed by Florida based, epoxy composite mastermind, Drew Bagget of Inspired surfboards. …Lost Surfboards worked with Drew to fine tune and then license the technology. Similar to C3-Tech, the BlackDarts are built with a virgin 1.5b, stringer-less eps core. The most striking feature is a full deck wrapped with our custom woven, Carbon/S-glass hybrid "BlackDart" material. All of the carbon fibers run uni-directional, only nose to tail, with S-Glass fibers running, cross wise (rail to rail). Unlike traditional bi-driectional Carbon weaves, this material (and thus board) that is far less stiff, much more forgiving, and even less prone to snapping and buckling, than boards built with traditional bi-directional Carbon fiber fabrics. The boards still maintain the quick reaction, highly responsible, memory benefits of Carbon Fiber, with out the issues associated with Bi-Driectional carbon weaves.. A second benefit to the hybrid cloth, is the ability to net beautiful color combinations using tints and pigments, which reacted well with the S-Glass fibers and contrast with the Carbon.
The Carbon covers the entire deck and fully wraps around the rail, but not out onto the bottom. this also keeps the boards from becoming too stiff, and only a light 4oz cover cloth wraps out onto the bottom deck. The bottom of the boards feature two full layers of 4oz cloth , to keep the board strong and day to day dent resistant.

"I discovered this about 10 years ago when i was using bi directional Carbon Fiber tapes on the boards and was having perfect buckles that looked like samurai sword perfect breaks. I was watching an episode of Myth Busters and they layed up both uni and 2x2 on a sheet of plywood and smashed it with a wrecking ball. The 2x2 shattered into a million pieces while the wrecking ball actually bounced off of the uni. Light bulb went on. From there all Carbon Fiber material we worked with was either uni or braids. "
WARNING: Carbon Fiber surfboards can easily get Hot! They're dark, and like all things dark they soak sun and heat up. The BlackDart and C3 built surfboards are made with lightweight EPS foam and a Carbon Fiber shell.
They are exquisite, hand made crafts. The Ferraris of surfboard construction. Treat them that way. They are not cheap. Do not leave them in your car when shopping, do not leave them in direct sunlight, while bronzing on the beach. They will get hot. It is even possible for them to overheat and bubble up. Protect and take proper care of your investment. We recommend keeping these boards safe in a heat reflective day bag. Most accessories companies have these available and most surf shops. Take the bag all the way to the beach if you plan to hang out in the sun, before or after surfing. If the boards do get dinged, let them dry out and fix them properly. With proper care and a little love, these boards will take the day to day bumps and bruises very well, remain light and extremely lively on the waves and provide hundreds of days of surfing enjoyment.
