2/16/15: Kolohe Andino wins the World Surf League QS 6,000 Australian Open of Surfing in Manly Beach, Aus. This is Kolohe’s second QS win of the season after competing in just three events this year. Riding his Matt Biolos shaped board, the San Clemente native blitz through the competition with a series of precision power carves and huge airs in the punchy beach break conditions. He started out the final against unknown Tahitian upstart Mateia Hiquily with a 9.27 and never really looked back. Here’s what he had to say about the win, “This has been a great event, but I’m not going to take my foot off the gas at all and I’m going to keep getting ready for Snapper,” Andino said. “I had a couple of heats where my back was up against the wall and I was able to fight through which is good mental prep for Snapper. I hadn’t really heard of Mateia (Hiquily) before, but I was super impressed by his surfing at this event, he was lighting these waves up – I told him to keep the momentum going and to go and get another result in Newcastle next week.” (WORLDSURFLEAGUE.COM).
