2/3/15: Mason Ho finishes 2nd at the 2015 WSL 3,000 Volcom Pipe Pro in 4-6 foot Backdoor conditions. Mason ended coming up just short of John John Florence in the final with Kelly Slater 3rd and Sebastian Zietz 4th. John started the final off with an 8.43 and Mason followed behind on the second wave of the set with an 8.60. In our totally bias opinions we thought the score could have been a tad higher for Mason. If you watch the replay John had perfect positioning and reads the wave to a T but he didn’t have to plow over the foam ball like Mason did. JJ followed that up almost immediately with a 9.2. The rest of the final was a waiting game with Mason needing a 9.04 to take the win. He found a good wave at Backdoor during the dying seconds of the final but it came in just under. Regardless, it was a great result to end an already epic Hawaiian contest season that started with Mason making the finals of the HIC Sunset Pro and ending with a win at the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout and a 2nd at the Volcom Pipe Pro. He now starts the 2015 WSL qualifying series tour with a solid start. Congrats Mason! Other notable results: Kolohe Andino making the semi-finals and Chris Ward dropping a 9.53 score on the third day of competition. The …lost boys really know their way around Pipe. In 2011 Chris Ward finished 3rd and in 2013 he finished 2nd (to John John). Mason finished 3rd in 2014 and now 2nd in 2015. Check vids and photos below.
